Mike Powell Happy With Athletes Long Jump Performance At Modesto Track And Field Festival.

(PRLEAP.COM) "I am very happy with my athlete’s performance in the Men’s and Women’s Long Jump today,’ states Mike Powell who had three of his athletes jumping at the 63rd Modesto Relays Track and Field Festival held on May 8th 2004.

Mike Powell is the currently world-record holder in the Long Jump. He beat Carl Lewis at the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo with a jump of 29 feet 4 inches, a jump that broke Bob Beamon’s 23-year-old record.
Powell, who now operates a Long Jump Academy in Southern California, also holds the Modesto meet record of 29 feet 2½ inches set in 1994.
"Hussain Al-Saba of Saudi Arabia currently ranked number three in the world came in second to Dwight Phillips jump of 27 feet 8 inches. Hussain’s jump of 27 feet 4 ¾ inches is the 2nd longest jump in the world this year, and broke his own Saudi record.’
"Cody Jones finished seventh and recorded his personal best of 24 feet 1 ½ inches.’
"U.S. Olympic hopeful include Bunmi Canales came in third in the Women’s competition with her personal best of 20 feet 6 inches. Unfortunately Khara Covington suffered a back injury and could not jump to the best of her ability and finished 6th with 18 feet 7 ¾ inches.’
"There is some tremendous new talent here, and I consider it my job to make sure that they are in their best physical and mental condition when they do compete. So it’s rewarding to see some of the Long Jump techniques we have been concentrating on in training pay off in competition,’ concludes Powell.
