AT&T Wireless is the first company in play, with Cingular, Vodafone, NTT DoCoMo and Nextel rumored as suitors. Cingular’s recent offer for AT&T Wireless illustrates the important place that wireless has for U.S. landline companies. "Wireless is the only significant prop under the telcos," says Allan Tumolillo, COO of the independent financial analyst firm Probe Financial Associates.
