WINE FOR WOMEN by LESLIE SBROCCO WINS 2003 GEORGES DUBOEUF BOOK OF THE YEAR AWARD

(PRLEAP.COM) WINE FOR WOMEN by LESLIE SBROCCO

WINS 2003 GEORGES DUBOEUF BOOK OF THE YEAR AWARD

New York, NY November 20, 2003: Leslie Sbrocco’s Wine for Women: A Guide to Buying, Pairing and Sharing Wine (William Morrow, An Imprint of HarperCollins Publishers $24.95/$38.95) received the Georges Duboeuf Book of the Year Award at the annual Beaujolais Nouveau luncheon held at Mix in New York.

Bill Deutsch, CEO and Chairman of W.J. Deutsch & Sons Ltd. and Franck Duboeuf of Les Vins Georges Duboeuf presented the consumable Award, a jeroboam of Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau 2003, to Leslie Sbrocco in front of an audience of fellow wine and food writers.

"In Beaujolais, we make wine very seriously so that wine drinkers can simply enjoy it. Beaujolais is the friendliest of wines, and we look for books in that spirit,’ said Duboeuf. "Too many people get chased away from wine because they perceive it as very complicated. We must open doors, not close them.’

"It dawned on me when I was looking for a new pair of pants, how much wine is like fashion…both are artistic expressions,’ says Sbrocco. From this innovative premise, Sbrocco establishes ‘style profiles’ for major wine types from Chardonnay (the ‘basic black’ of whites) to Pinot Noir (the ‘seductive satin’ of reds). Sbrocco then assembles "Leslie’s Label Links,’ a tip sheet for each wine style that tells shoppers which labels to focus on—exactly as you might zero in on Ralph Lauren or Calvin Klein at a fashionable department store. "Learning the Name Game will help you make the correlation between grape and place,’ she writes. "But memorizing a few of my favorite wine growing regions through Label Links will take you a steps further, by empowering you to begin associating place with taste.

Wine for Women is organized in such a way that wine lovers of all knowledge levels will enjoy it. Written in a breezy, conversational tone, the book tackles the basics while delving into topics that will interest more advanced wine enthusiasts. Leslie Sbrocco feels that wine should not be feared or revered—simply enjoyed. Leslie is a regular wine contributor to t he San Francisco Chronicle, and her work may be read in Redbook. Good Housekeeping, O!, Coastal Living and other publications. She is the wine contributor on the national PBS-TV cooking show, "Seasonings’.

Past winners of the Georges Duboeuf Wine Book of the Year Award include The Wine Bible, Karen MacNeil, The Unofficial Guide to Selecting Wine, Felicia Sherbert, Wine for Dummies, Mary Ewing Mulligan and Ed McCarthy, The Windows on the World Wine Correspondence Course, Kevin Zraly, The Winemaker’s Year in Beaujolais, Michael Buller and A Village in the Vineyards, Thomas and Sara Matthews.
